CLARINGTON -- Katey CoDyre is a provincial champion. Again.
In fact, being in Grade 11, CoDyre will now get a shot at an OFSAA three-peat a year from now, after she successfully defended her open girls' 1500-metre steeplechase title at the provincial high school track-and-field championships in Sudbury last week.
CoDyre was one of three students from Courtice Secondary School to bring home medals from the competition, the final and most prestigious meet of the high school season. Nathan Ackerman and BJ Cunliffe delivered bronze medals.
CoDyre had a strong finishing kick over the final 100m of her race to beat Julie-Anne Staehli from Wingham by nearly three seconds, clocking in at 5:06.77.
