Two West athletes compete at OFSAA for the first time

That's how Jacob Fast felt to be competing at the Ontario Federation of School Athletic Associations track and field championships last week in Sudbury.

For Fast, a fifth-year athlete from Cobourg District Collegiate Institute West, it's been a slow journey to the provincial championships.

This year he advanced in both shot put and discus. He's always had success at the Kawartha and Central Ontario meets, but the East Regionals -- where the athletes have to place in the top four in their respective events to qualify for OFSAA -- always posed more of a problem.

"It definitely was really frustrating," Fast said. "I usually was a little rough going into East Regionals. I was never able get my nerves in control and always had a bad day. This year I just kind of got that in check and it went well."
