Napanee track and field star closes in on international assignmentBy Mike Koreen/The Whig-StandardPosted 1 day agoBrandon Deslauriers didn't just win two medals at the Ontario Federation of School Athletic Associations track and field championships. The Napanee District Secondary School student likely also earned a trip to France this past weekend in Sudbury. With his silver medal-winning senior boys shot put throw of 18.21 metres, Deslauriers, 16, met the Canadian standard to qualify for the IAAF World Youth Championships, July 6 to 10 in Lille, France. Unless two other Canadians beat Deslauriers' effort before June 20, the five-time OFSAA medal winner figures to be representing the country at the event for 1994- and 1995-born athletes.
